As I am becoming older, I look at cartoons in a deeper aspect to better understand life. There are two types of people in this world, SpongeBob SquarePants or Squidward. I am starting to fully understand Squidward’s life from SpongeBob SquarePants.
Squidward was nonchalant, always stayed to himself, and considered life as it is what it is. Many thought he was just a prude, but he was simply being himself. Unlike SpongeBob thatwas happy 24/7, hardly ever sad, trying to fix everyone’s problems, and always trying to impress everyone he met. Being happy is necessarily a bad issue, but all day and every day is not realistic.
In the 2019 blockbuster, Joker, the theme song was Frank Sinatra’s greatest hits, “That’s Life.”It just means somedays you win and some days you lose, that’s how life treats you. We are often stuck in our motions of sleeping, working, and repeating that schedule every day. The old saying when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade but when life throws rocks at you, you tend to sink. Instantly you find yourself falling through the cracks of the right path and begin to lose your way.
Today, I saw a yellow lily blooming out of a field of weeds in my backyard. Instantly, I thought of hope. Hope that life will become better, that we should not feel like giving up. It is so easy to give up instead of pushing through our storms. We all need to learn how to become a better Squidward. I am here to tell you to stay as positive as SpongeBob, but it is not your job to fix everyone’s problems. Try to have that “I’m ready” state of mind while focusing on yourself, to obtain true happiness. Everyone is not your friend and, that is okay, don’t lose yourself, trying to impress someone that does not care about you. You only have one life, choose to live your life to the fullest every day.
